In both images and poetry, Africa’s Children explores the emergence of various musical forms that have their roots in the African drum. Blues, Jazz, Funk, and Cuban are all based on rhythms, originating in African drumming, that slaves brought to America and the Islands. Each form developed its own distinct voice, but there is no mistaking that they all emerged from the rhythms of mother Africa. As legendary Funk musician James Brown believed, every instrument is a drum.
